Physical Therapy 3 w/ Matthew Dear ADULT. Mike Servito & more (Official Movement Pre-party)
Freakish Pleasures has thrown some of Detroit’s wildest and weirdest events- an incessantly churning function factory, this company has featured the globe’s illustrious acts, while consistently showcasing Detroit and Metro Detroit’s classic and emerging artists. For Movement 2017, Freakish Pleasures will bring back their “Physical Therapy” party for the third year running.
Freakish Pleasures explains,
There’s nothing like a good night of dancing. Obviously a good work out- but also to clear your head. Modern life doesn’t allow much time for reflection and in-person community interaction. We hope to provide a place for that, so that you leave feeling refreshed and uplifted.
This belief serves as testament to the atmosphere and solidified the event title “Physical Therapy,” in 2015 when Freakish Pleasures affiliate Pat Tuff came up with the name and DJed its inception.
This year Freakish Pleasures is back with legendary and contemporary artists on the bill. “This line-up is sort of a dream come true for us —everyone performing has been instrumental in the Michigan electronic music scene over the last 20 years.” This year they have combined some of Ghostly International’s finest with a mix of independent newcomers and classics in electronic music. “Our first introduction to a lot of electronic music was through the Ghostly guys … part of the strength of Ghostly is its eclecticism, and we think that has rubbed off on us.”
This event will stand out from the others with their venue choice and assortment of acts. “For one, we have a few great live performances: local favorites ADULT., Ritual Howls, Shigeto x Trees live Techno set (debut!!) and our new friend Maria Minerva from Estonia by way of LA. Our friends at Marble Bar are going out of their way to put together a special weekend and really helped make this all happen. It’s rare to meet club owners who actually care about the music!”
This event will offer partiers “Something a little different, exciting and intellectually stimulating. To really know, you’ll have to experience it for yourself!”

SATURDAY MAY 27TH
Soul Clap’s HOUSE of EFUNK (Official Movement Afterparty)
In its fourth year, Soul Clap’s HOUSE of EFUNK is ready to take attendees on a transcendent voyage to a place where space, time, music and energy are one. Regarding the “special sauce” that has kept this event strong, Crew Love commander/ Soul Clap artist manager Jonathan McDonald explains:
The special sauce is the tag team we’ve got going with team Soul Clap, the folks at TV Bar and the wizards at Paxahau… together we can throw an epic party! Oh, and of course we’re NOTHING without all the loyal party peeps that keep the place rocking at all hours, the real secret is all y’all!
Another ingredient in the magic mix is outstanding artist selection. With past guests like George Clinton, Dam Funk, and Biz Markie it’s no doubt that the lineup is solid. JMAC on the vision for House of Efunk:
One of the many aspects that sets The House of EFUNK apart from other touring event brands is our continued commitment to educating these youngins’ about the history of dance music. This is one of the major criteria that we use to determine who to book. What role have these artists played in teaching us when we were young ravers? How have they grown to adapt to the times? How contemporary sounding are they STILL to this day?
TV Lounge provides a distinctive physical layout for attendees. As JMAC describes:
You get it all: the sweaty inside room with dance floor and chill out seating, the outside main area with multi levels and vantage points and then the side alley that just goes off every time! [TV bar at the House of EFUNK] seems to always turn into a magical complex of rave which at the same time feels like home, that’s why we keep coming back year after year.
When all of the event’s components coalesce, the House of EFUNK is in full effect. JMAC believes this event inspires unity and human connection when positive energy fills the venue and the Funky, Freaky and Free atmosphere encapsulates the function. As JMAC wants event goers to know that, “For yet another going strong at our House, Everybody’s Freaky Under Nature’s Kingdom”. Everyone is welcome except those without tickets so hurry and secure them as they are going fast!

TEXTURE (Official Movement Afterparty)
TEXTURE presents its first Movement event and they’re ready to impress. TEXTURE founder Jacob Park knew that they needed to bring their A-game with this inaugural Movement after party as he mentions, “Detroit is a city drenched with talent; from DJs/producers to visual artists, and every other imaginable medium, it was paramount that we represent Detroit’s creative culture the best we can. “
This first Movement event is our opportunity to push the spatial elements further than we have before. We will explore ’the Portal’– an extraordinary opening in space/time that connects travelers to distant realms. A good portal is a shortcut, a guide, a door into the unknown. Our team will collaborate with Detroit artist Patrick Ethen to create a one-of-a-kind piece that visually transports the attendees between two dimensions.
Marble Bar will make for the perfect location for portal jumping as it boasts both an inside dance area and bar, upstairs terrace and outdoor patio. “The artists for the inside stage will musically lean toward futuristic and far-reaching techno/acid/house while the outdoor area will focus on much warmer sounds,” explained Park.
While Detroit-based artist Patrick Ethen will be providing the visuals with his incredible light-based work, an eclectic and international group of artists will fill the night air with techno, acid, house music and everything in-between. “Hosting our first Movement after party has given us the opportunity to host artists that are not normally possible during the rest of the year in Detroit. Programming a lineup on this scale it’s important to bring fresh talent which haven’t experienced Detroit before, but also key artists who know the Detroit culture well – several Detroit debuts on the lineup, as well as hometown staples,” explained Jacob Park. TEXTURE will also welcome DJs hailing from Chicago, Cologne, Atlanta, Berlin and Montreal.
“TEXTURE aims to contribute something unique to Detroit, and to the movement after party landscape. We are fortunate to have an amazing team at Marble Bar to work with. Ultimately, we are trying to produce the best experience we can for the attendees.” Guests are encouraged to be present in the moment and come with an open mind. Teleport to TEXTURE’s maiden Movement party and explore the unknown.
