PLAYGROUND DETROIT has collaborated with lululemon athletica to curate and manage the pilot of bi-monthly featured artist series for their newly renovated retail location. This series will feature rotating commissioned artwork from top Detroit-based talent on the community chalkboard and a rotating selection of original artworks for sale. In return, the initiative allows lululemon athletica to be reflective of the greater Detroit community and provide their customers with a truly unique retail experience. The 2017 series has launched with Ouizi and a series of original textile paintings.

The emerging artists that we curate for the brand and the commissioned artwork they create will attract and inspire customers with a fresh, compelling visual and cultural experience unique to Detroit and this location. It also allows the artists to also expand their audience in a dynamic community and high-end retail environment within the 4,000 square feet store in Somerset Collection South in Troy, Michigan.

PLAYGROUND DETROIT has partnered with lululemon athletica Somerset to present emerging Detroit artists with rotating artwork commissions including exclusive original artwork for purchase in-store. Ouizi, muralist and illustrator is the debut artist of 2017. Her captivating murals can be seen throughout Detroit in Eastern Market, West Village and Southwest. Video credit, Evan Denomme.

Starting in 2017, PLAYGROUND DETROIT will curate bi-monthly featured artists to create original artwork for the double-sided chalkboard on display in the main storefront window for lululemon athletica. In addition, the featured artist will provide an artwork series behind the cash wrap for sale. PLAYGROUND DETROIT is responsible for any original artwork sales or private commissions during the two-month engagement with each selected artist.
