PLAYGROUND DETROIT is excited to announce Cristin Richard as our artist choice to showcase at Michigan F.A.S.H. Fest. After reviewing all of our application submissions, Cristins proposal and body of work are an exceptional match for this event, representing our mission and her involvement in Detroit artist community. In her proposal she explains,
As a resident of Detroit, my personal matters are intertwined with my dealings and experiences with this city. In order for Detroit to succeed, the perception of what it should be needs to change. People must think outside of the normal equation and utilize what is at their finger tips. This is not limited to abandoned buildings, it also addresses the people that live here.”
Richards work explores the idea of fashion as sculpture, blurring the line between fine art and fashion. Her primary medium of choice is hog intestines, a skin-like material that is chosen and used for its translucency, metaphorical language and historical depth. She lives and works in Detroit, and attended the College For Creative Studies School of Art & Design for her BFA graduating in 2003. In 2011, she completed a residency program at La Découpe Residency, Paris, France. She has had numerous solo exhibitions, including Domesticate Me, La Découpe, Paris, France and the Come Play With Me, There’s Enough to go Around, The Burton Theatre and also has been a part of numerous group shows. Please visit her website for a complete listing.
