The WORLD PREMIERE of BURN: One Year on the Frontlines of the Battle to Save Detroit opened yesterday at the Tribeca Film Festival in NYC. The documentary was directed by Tom Putnam and Brenna Sanchez and features footage from a year documenting the lives of the crew from Fire Station #50 in Detroit, MI. Dennis Leary was also the Executive Producer on the film, and was present alongside the entire cast, who travelled out to NYC from Detroit for the event.
According the the film, Detroit has the most fires in any other city in the US, and these fire fighters are faced with a staggering amount of fires every night and in addition, have to deal with major budget restraints that don’t allow for fire house restoration, truck restoration, and a lack of fire trucks available across the Detroit Fire Department. This documentary is truly an inspiring story of these heroic city workers, all who truly love their jobs and never set out for fame or fortune. The footage of the men going into these buildings is amazing, and this video will hopefully bring much needed attention to the city of Detroit and its varied problems with the capabilities it has to serve its residents well.
Of course, the notoriety and fortune is now going to be hard to evade- the movie received a standing ovation from the audience, and after the film the Detroit Fire Department was given a grant from Momentous Insurance Brokerage and the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company to donate $25,000.
If you are in NYC you can still catch two more screenings of the film on Tuesday and Thursday. RUSH tickets are available. For more information, click here.
